Historical Background

The Department of Information and Studies was established in 1962, mainly with the purpose of supplying information to the Operations Department, in particular, and to other departments of Kuwait Fund.  The Department maintains a library of Books, periodicals and other publications in addition to archives containing documents and feasibility studies of projects and other studies. The content of the library covers a wide range of subjects falling under the disciplines of Economics, Law and Engineering.

Services

First: Library Lending Services

The loan of books and other publications is available to all Kuwait Fund staff as follows:

  • Books. Borrowing of books is available with no limit on the number of books borrowed. Books may be borrowed for one month upon signature of the appropriate form and such period may be extended. Persons, other than Kuwait Fund staff, such as researchers, professors and students may borrow books with the approval of the Director of the Fund's Library.
  • Periodicals. Kuwait Fund staff may borrow periodicals, without a limit on number, for a maximum for one week. Weekly periodicals are available on loan to technical staff of the Department of Operations upon request, and some periodicals, mainly in the nature of specialized news magazines, are sent to some departments and may be kept by them.
  • Inter-Library Loan (ILL) Service. This service is available among Kuwait libraries of similar specialization as that of Kuwait Fund Library.
  • Feasibility Studies. Borrowing of these specialized studies is limited to technical staff of the Fund.
  • Information on Consulting Firms. Registration forms and files concerning engineering and other consulting firms may only be borrowed by the technical staff of the Fund.
Second. Photocopying Service

Photocopying is available without charge to all Kuwait Fund staff and also to other persons such as researchers, professors and students, subject to compatibility of the required photocopying with copyright laws.  In any case, photocopying should not exceed 10% of the pages of the publication with respect to which photocopying is reqested.

Third. Reference Desk Services:

This service involves response to simple requests by users of the library not involving extensive research and relating merely to the provision of such things as the map of a country or particular statistics.

Fourth. Reference Search Service: 

This service relates to information on a particular subject and may involve an extensive search by our information specialists covering local and external data bases. As such, provision of the particular service may take some time.

Fifth. Information on New Acquisitions :

Information about new acquisitions of books and other publications and documents received by the Department is supplied periodically, e.g. every month, to the technical staff of the Fund through an electronic bulletin. Tables of the contents of newly received periodicals are also sent to technical staff upon receipt of the periodicals.    

Sixth. Service Identifying Information Sources About Projects:

This service involves the preparation of lists of sources of information about projects under consideration by the Operations Department and supplying such list to technical staff of the said Department. The lists contain the titles of references, documents, articles published in periodicals, newly published books which help to provide relevant information about projects to be appraised.
