On the Occasion of the Sixtieth Anniversary of Kuwait's Joining the United Nations
Al-Bahar: The State of Kuwait has established a steadfast approach in its foreign policy that is based on enhancing close cooperation with its development partners in a manner that serves Kuwait's national interests and strengthens its position in the international community
As we commemorate sixtieth anniversary of Kuwait's membership in the United Nations, the significance of the humanitarian mission undertaken by Kuwait is reaffirmed. This anniversary serves as a testament to Kuwait's unwavering commitment to support and contribute to a better future for all humanity, irrespective of prevailing circumstances or crises.
Within the framework of supporting regional and international humanitarian work, the efforts made by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, in partnership with various United Nations organizations, have significantly enhanced the capacity of developing countries. This joint cooperation has had a profound impact on communities, particularly in sectors such as education, health, agriculture, irrigation, transportation, communications, energy, industry, water, and sanitation. Moreover, the fund has consistently upheld its commitment to supporting refugees by providing access to essential services such as shelter, education, healthcare, and clean drinking water, thus ensuring their ability to lead a dignified and healthy life. Focused efforts have been directed towards improving indicators associated with childhood well-being, such as reducing child mortality rates and curbing the spread of diseases. The successful reduction in these areas, along with a decrease in child poverty rates, demonstrate the effectiveness of development projects. These initiatives, which prioritize children's welfare, are a critical factor in achieving sustainable development.
On this occasion, the Acting General Director of the Kuwait Fund for Development, Mr. Waleed Shamlan Al-Bahar, stated: "The State of Kuwait has established a steadfast approach in its foreign policy that is based on enhancing close cooperation with its development partners in a manner that serves Kuwait's national interests and strengthens its position in the international community. The Kuwait Fund has provided loans, grants, and technical assistance to more than one hundred countries across diverse geographical regions, without discrimination based on any religion, language, nationality, or political agendas. This commitment has resulted in the execution of 1,012 sustainable development projects."
Since its inception, the Kuwait Fund has been a significant contributor to numerous United Nations organizations, including the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).
