Signature of a Supplementary Grant Agreement To Finance Priority Water Interventions Project in Gaza – State of Palestine And Emendment to Grant Agreement No: 400
A Supplementary Grant Agreement was signed today in Kuwait between the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, to which the Fund will provide an additional grant of 340,000 US Dollars to contribute to the financing of the Priority Water Interventions Project in Gaza Strip, State of Palestine, which will provide clean and healthy water for the residents of Khan Younis and Deir al-Balah, an ongoing project which previously received grant funding of 3.0 million US Dollars.
The Supplementary Grant Agreement was signed on behalf of the United Nations Children's Fund by Mr. Eltayeb Adam - Area Representative for the Gulf, and by Director General, Mr. Marwan A. Th. Alghanem on behalf of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.
The project aims to contribute to achieving one of the global objectives of the UNICEF program in the State of Palestine of improving access to safe drinking water for more than 280,000 people, while effectively mitigating the risks of wastewater diseases in the targeted areas in the Gaza Strip, where 200,000 inhabitants will benefit from permanent access to wastewater services through the supply and installation of solar energy power systems in water management stations and civil works for the various water and wastewater facilities for six different locations in the Gaza Strip. In addition, 80,000 inhabitants will benefit from reducing sewage and stormwater flooding and increasing the ability to mitigate related risks in the cities of Khan Yunis and Deir al-Balah through the construction of concrete rainwater transmission lines. The Grant will also contribute to achieving a set of sustainable development goals (SDGs) most notably the third goal for good health and well-being, the sixth goal for clean water and sanitation, and finally the seventeenth goal on partnerships for achieving sustainable development goals.
