SIGNATURE OF AGREEMENT FOR A GRANT FOR THE FINANCING OF ABBOUDIA BORDER CONTROL STATION ( PHASE II) PROJECT IN THE LEBANESE REPUBLIC
An agreement concerning the financing of Abboudia Border Control Station Project was signed today in the city of Beirut between the Lebanese Republic, Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (the Fund) and the International Organization for Migration By virtue of the said agreement the Fund will make a grant of U.S. Dollars 1,500,000 to the Lebanese Republic to assist in financing Abboudia Border Control Station Project ( Phase II). It is worth-mentioning that the Fund is a Kuwaiti public corporation which relies entirely on its own resources for making loans and providing other kinds of development assistance.
The Grant Agreement was signed by His Excellency Mr. Nabeel Adnan Al-Jisr, Chairman of the Council for Development and Reconstruction, on behalf of the Lebanese Republic and by Mr. Abdulwahab Ahmed Al-Bader, Director-General of Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, on behalf of the Fund. Mr. Fawzi Al-Zayoud, Manager of the office of the International Organization for Migration in the Lebanese Republic signed the Agreement on behalf the said Organization.
The Project aims at assisting the Lebanese Government in its efforts to enhance the capabilities of the of the Administration of Migration and Border Control and to strengthen border security and combatting cross-border crime, while providing for the smooth control of migration. Whereas Phase I of the Project included the construction of a hall for arrivals, Phase II involves the construction of a hall for departures so as to provide for the necessary facilities at the border station for control of the entry and departure of passengers and refugees. The Project is being executed under the control of a high committee consisting of His Excellency the Chairman of the Council for Development and Reconstruction, or his representative, as Chairman, and a member representing the International Organization for Migration and another member representing the Department of Public Security in the Lebanese Republic. Phase II of the Project to be financed by the above-mentioned Grant includes the Construction of civil works for the building for departures, re-habilitation of yards and the outer wall as well as construction of the infra-structure for services, provision of equipment and furniture in addition to provision of consulting services for design of the works and supervision of their construction.
