| Project Objectives | The Project aims in the long term at contributing to sustainable development in the Northern part of Mali through the construction of a regulatory dam and its ancillaries on the niger river to meet irrigation requirement, fisheries, live stock production, electricity generation, inviromental improvement as well as guaranteeing a minimum flow of 75 m3/s to The republic of Niger. |

| Project Description | The Project at present stage is composed of the following main parts: 1)The construction of a rockfill dam of about 1200m long, 36m height fitted with a spillway of 3300 m3/s capacity. 2) The construction of a quay of 100m long and 30m wide for baot bearthing. 3) The construction of a lock of 66.5m long and 12m wide. 4) The construction and installation of a hydro power house of a capacity 8 MW able to generate 36 GWh each year. 5) The installation of 66 kV transmission lines between Gao, Bamba and the dam site. 6) The construction of a road of about 130 km long to connect Gao to the dam site. 7) The reclamation of about 3500 ha of agricultural land to substitute the land which will be permanently submerged by the dam reservoir. 8) The reseattlment of inhabitants of the submerged area and improvement of the environment in the project area. 9) Engineering Services and dam review panel. 10) Institutional support. |
