Project Objectives | The Project aims to support the economic and social development in the Lubombo Region at Matata Area located along the right bank of Usuthu River, through the expansion of the existing main canal and construction of the relevant distribution system, to convey the required and sustainable water from Usuthu River to irrigate about 5,750 ha. of agricultural land. Thus increasing the agricultural production of sugarcane in principle and other cash crops, reduce the poverty in the Project area and improve the farmer's income, in addition to support the government food security strategy |
Project Description | The Project consists mainly of civil and electromechanical works for the existing main canal extension including the construction of a siphon, Matata Canal and all the related works, secondary distribution system, service roads, balancing storage reservoirs, booster pump stations, and on farm works, which include land bush clearing, levelling and installing relevant irrigation systems for about 42 agricultural schemes. The Project also includes consulting services for the preparation of the detail design, tender documents and Project supervision, in addition to the Project management. |
