Kuwait Fund supports humanitarian projects for Rohingya in Bangladesh
Throughout the decades, the State of Kuwait has left remarkable humanitarian marks in the field of helping refugees around the world, in cooperation and coordination with UN agencies and other international organizations related to refugees’ affairs and human rights in many countries, giving Kuwaiti relief action a profound humanitarian aspect.
The Fund undertakes the State of Kuwait’s humanitarian efforts and implements the country’s initiatives as an endeavor to provide unique and effective quality-response to many communities, support refugees, and bolster its benevolent march in exerting efforts and giving.
As part of efforts to support the Rohingya minority refugees in the People's Republic of Bangladesh, a delegation consisting of representatives from Kuwait Fund and Kuwait Red Crescent Society paid a maiden visit to Sadar Hospital in Cox's Bazar Region, southeast Bangladesh, which KRCS and KFAED jointly support.
During the visit, KRCS Secretary-General, Vice-President of International Federation of Red Cross and Crescent Societies (IFRC) for the region of Asia and Pacific Ocean Maha Al-Barjas extended utmost gratitude and appreciation to Kuwait Fund for supporting the humanitarian, medical, and relief aid projects that the Society carries out for the Rohingya in Bangladesh.
The Fund offered funding for the casualty and outdoor patient departments at the hospital through partnership with KRCS and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), she noted.
The Fund has also donated USD 5 million to projects aiming to meet the urgent needs of nearly one million Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, including logistic, healthcare and medical services, Al-Barjas added.
Bangladesh, through KRCS, has led support efforts to nearly one million refugees living in Cox’ Bazar refugees’ camps, as it remains a top partner to the Society, she affirmed, stressing the importance of continuing the international support to provide humanitarian, medical, and relief aid.
KRCS works with its partners to intensify efforts and expand the pace of essential services such as health, education, in addition to learning skills and providing employment opportunities to refugees and their host communities in Bangladesh, noted Al-Barjas.
She also indicated that such inspection visits aim to look into the needs of the Rohingya and the Bengali society, and handing over the aid support in person to families living in the camps that have been inspected, noting that Kuwait Fund's continuous support of KRCS efforts reflected on the State of Kuwait's pioneering endeavors to improve the lives of millions of needy ones around the world.
For his part, Mamadou Sow, Head of the regional delegation of ICRC to GCC states, said “We are grateful for this strategic partnership, and for Kuwait’s support of ICRC operations in Bangladesh. We strive, in cooperation with KRCS and KFAED, to increase the support provided to millions of people in Bangladesh as we look forward to working together”.
It is worth mentioning that KRCS, in cooperation with Kuwait Fund, has carried out multiple relief projects for the Rohingya in Bangladesh ever since the outbreak of this crisis, providing life services and requirements for safe and secure living. Moreover, the Society carried out, in cooperation with other humanitarian organizations, multiple relief projects, including the construction of 1,200 residential units financed by Kuwait Fund and Qatar Red Crescent, as well as distributing various foodstuffs and supporting health care and water projects in that region.
The KFAED-KRCS partnership in Bangladesh reflects joint keenness on benevolent action and helping the Rohingya refugees. It also confirms the State of Kuwait’s role as a global humanitarian center and keenness on providing urgent humanitarian aid to afflicted countries.
Kuwait Fund takes on providing assistances to refugees and displaced ones in many countries such as Palestine, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen, in addition to assisting the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh through humanitarian aid and acting as a development shoulder to the Kuwaiti government.
