During the Delegation's Inspection of the "Al-Wafra Power Station” Funded by the Kuwait Fund for Development Al-Shaikh: Al-Wafra Power Station Project Surpasses 50% Completion, Anticipated Delivery in December 2024
In a recent statement, Mohamed Al-Shaikh, Chief Network Officer at the Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA), stated that the construction and civil works of the Al-Wafra Power Station project in Kuwait are advancing according to schedule. Al-Shaikh added that the project's completion rate has exceeded 50%, aligning with the projected completion date of December 2024. This statement came as part of a field visit on Monday conducted by a delegation from the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development and GCCIA officials to inspect the project.
The aim of the visit was to review the work progress of the project. The delegation was also joined by trainee engineers at the GCCIA who are part of the Kuwait Fund's Training Program for Newly Graduated Kuwaiti Engineers and Architects, a program launched in 2004 with the aim of developing the national workforce by providing them with practical training and experience.
In turn, trainee engineer Othman Al-Amhouj shared his insights: “We are currently working in Saudi Arabia with Omexom GCC Projects, the company responsible for implementing the Al-Wafra Power Station project under the Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority. Today's visit to the project site, along with the delegation from the Kuwait Fund and the GCCIA, is to inspect the project's progress and to follow up with the contractor and engineers from the implementing company.”
The Al-Wafra Power Station, a key element of the expansion projects, will link the GCCIA's network with Kuwait's through four 400-kilovolt circuits, at a total cost of 270 million US dollars. This project is crucial for ensuring continuous and sustainable electricity supply at all times.
This project stands as a significant regional development endeavor in the realm of Gulf and regional cooperation. It is aimed at addressing the challenges and growing demand in the Gulf interconnection sector, while also providing electrical energy to all Gulf countries.
