President of Tajikistan Receives Acting Director-General of the Kuwait Fund for Development

On the sidelines of his official visit to the State of Kuwait, His Excellency President Emomali Rahmon, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, received the Acting Director-General of the Kuwait Fund for Development, Mr. Waleed Shamlan Al-Bahar, at His Excellency's residence at Bayan Palace.

During the meeting, the bilateral relations between the Kuwait Fund and the Republic of Tajikistan and ways to enhance development cooperation between the two sides were discussed. Discussions also included the ongoing development projects in Tajikistan funded by the Fund and future cooperation opportunities.

The relationship between the Kuwait Fund for Development and the Republic of Tajikistan dates back to 2001, with the Kuwait Fund investing more than USD 85 million in implementing energy and road transport projects, in addition to government investment projects in Tajikistan.

Among the most prominent of these projects is the Shurabad-Shagon Road Project (Kulyab-Kalaikhumb corridor), which aims to enhance economic and social development in the country by developing the road network, thereby contributing to reducing operating costs and reducing travel time for individuals and goods.

Through its financing of development projects in the Republic of Tajikistan and other brotherly and friendly countries around the world, the Fund is keen to achieve a number of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Fund also encourages the implementation of clean energy projects with minimal environmental impact that contribute to reducing the effects of climate change.
