Inspecting Al-Wafra power plant project in Kuwait

GCC Interconnection Authority's Chief Executive Officer Engineer Ahmad Al-Ibrahim described the current cooperation with Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development in implementing Al-Wafra power plant project as "very excellent".

"GCCIA and the Fund are working as a team to make this project a success as it is a joint objective for all of us," Al-Ibrahim stated while conducting an inspection tour to the project location.

He disclosed that GCCIA strives for a greater cooperation with KFAED in carrying out other vital and strategic projects in favor of Kuwait and Gulf states.

The Authority CEO also expressed utmost gratitude to the Fund's continued support and follow-up of the project.

In the same context, Al-Ibrahim said the ongoing construction and civil works at Al-Wafra station are going well so far and in accordance with the timeframe set to complete the project, slated for December 2024.

"The project is currently in the implementation phase as completion of construction and civil works for concrete footings for electrical transmission towers has reached 15 percent, while completion of overhead power lines for transmitting electrical energy reached 27 percent," he mentioned.

"We have examined the situation on the ground, reviewed reports, listened to the project engineers, consultants, and contractors, and made sure work is on track in terms of direct coordination with joint operations teams, and ordering of materials and their timely arrival," added Al-Ibrahim.

He pointed out Al-Wafra power plant is one of the largest of GCCIA-affiliated electrical stations, and that coordination with manufacturers and suppliers is "very important" to ensure that construction works move along according to the timeframe.

Furthermore, Al-Ibrahim stressed the importance of conducting such inspection tours on CEO level in order to view the situation closely and ensure a good workflow, noting the project is of a great importance to GCCIA, the State of Kuwait, and the Republic of Iraq.

Meanwhile, a field meeting with engineers and contractors supervising the project was held on the sidelines of the field tour to review workflow.

The meeting was chaired by Engineer Al-Ibrahim, and attended by Chief Network Officer at GCCIA Engineer Mohamed Al-Shaikh, Board of Directors Affairs Manager at GCCIA Mr. Abdul Mohsen Al-Musallami, Head Protection Control and Telcom at GCCIA Engineer Alaa Rahma, and Mr. Abdulaziz Al-Sumait, Specialized Operations Engineer at KFAED.
