Student delegations of “Be Among the Outstanding” program conclude trips to Tunisia, Vietnam

Delegations of male and female students joining the “Be Among the Outstanding” program, financed by Kuwait Fund for outstanding high school students in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, concluded their trips to Tunisia and Vietnam.

The two journeys achieved their desired objectives and left a positive impression on male and female students after seeing the State of Kuwait’s development contributions, through Kuwait Fund, in world countries, Ms. Fatima Al-Terkait, supervisor of the Vietnam trip, said.

“Undertaking field visits to Kuwait Fund-financed projects and meeting with projects officials and managers gave the students a clear picture of the Fund’s positive contributions and their reflections on people’s lives and nations’ economies,” added Al-Terkait.

She noted the Vietnam trip included integrated culture and entertainment tours that gave the female students an opportunity to explore and be aware of the top Vietnamese products such as the incense sticks at Quang Phu Cau Village.

“The students also visited the ceramic factory, which makes one of the most important products exported by Vietnam,” Al-Terkait mentioned, adding that “the Vietnamese ceramic is ranked the third in Asia in terms of production and manufacturing”.

Furthermore, the students visited the coastal infrastructural development project for responding to climate changes in Thai Thuy district, which aims at supporting the coastal infrastructure in order to alleviate the negative impacts of floods caused by climate change, she said.

During a discovery tour to the project and seeing its effectiveness in preventing destruction caused by floods, the project manager Mr. Boi Dan said “the project is not only useful in countering climate change, but it also contributes to increasing the people’s economy through investment in neighboring areas that became eligible for housing, which is in turn good for achieving sustainable development”.

For her part, Lolowa Al-Hindi, student, expressed her pride of Kuwait Fund’s accomplishments that constantly support and help developing countries, noting that “despite of Kuwait’s small geographic size, it, somehow, has major achievements that contributed to changing people’s lives, in economic and social terms, in over 100 countries around the world, and that’s what we have witnessed here in Vietnam”.

On the other hand, Mr. Saleh Taqi, supervisor of the Tunisia trip, said the main objective of organizing such a trip is to reward the outstanding students for their school achievements.

“The Fund organized several culture and entertainment tours within the program, the last of which was a visit to the Sidi Bou Said region, which overlooks the Mediterranean Sea and renowned for its blue and white colored houses and buildings,” Taqi said, adding the students visited Dar El Annabi heritage house, which known for its old architecture and Tunisian heritage.

He also mentioned that Tunisia has been chosen as a destination for this year’s students’ trip due to the solid relationship between the Fund and this brotherly country, adding Tunisia is one of the first countries to cooperate with Kuwait Fund back in 1963 when the Fund contributed to financing the first-ever electricity project in La Goulette.

For his part, Hussein Mirza, student, said “we were enjoying the trip very much as we became familiar with Tunisia’s culture and history. We visited the olive oil processing mill and saw the beauty of Tunisian countryside. We also visited the extension of the Belt Road (no. 20) project, which is financed by Kuwait Fund and aims at facilitating traffic and reducing traffic jams around the capital”.

The “Be Among the Outstanding” program, is an initiative launched by Kuwait Fund in 2010. It annually organizes two separate trips during the spring break for 12 of the outstanding high school male and female students from the 11th grade, in cooperation with the education ministry.

The one week-long trips target two of Kuwait Fund-recipient countries to explore most distinctive projects that the Fund contributed to financing.
