News Detail - Kuwait Fund
Under the patronage and presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Fund for Development, Mr. Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya, the Kuwait Fund for Development held an event today at its headquarters to mark "World Refugee Day." The event was also attended by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Representative to Kuwait, Ms. Nisreen Rubaian.
On this occasion, the Minister stated, "Our partnership with the UNHCR has enabled us to reach those in dire need of humanitarian support. Through this partnership, the Kuwait Fund and the UNHCR have improved living conditions and met the basic needs of over 200,000 refugees in northern Iraq, enhanced healthcare services for more than 100,000 refugees in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and supported internally displaced persons and their host communities in the Republic of Yemen. These are just selected examples of our achievements."
He also emphasized Kuwait's policy of supporting refugees without discrimination based on religion, race, or nationality, highlighting the deeply humanitarian nature of Kuwait's efforts. This policy reflects Kuwait's steadfast commitment to the principles of equality and human dignity.
Speaking on behalf of the UNHCR, Ms. Rubaian stated, "Today, more than 30 years after the opening of our office, I reiterate my congratulations to Kuwait and its people for being an example of strategic partnership with the UNHCR and a key supporter, a driver of peace, and a major player in humanitarian diplomacy. Their assistance has met the needs of more than 10 million refugees and displaced persons worldwide through direct support from their government and people or through the esteemed Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development."
During the event, Ms. Rubaian honored the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Director-General of the Kuwait Fund for Development, Mr. Waleed Shamlan Al-Bahar, expressing gratitude and appreciation for Kuwait and the Kuwait Fund's role in assisting refugees and improving their living conditions. She acknowledged their continuous cooperation and coordination with UN agencies and other international organizations concerned with refugee and human rights issues in many countries, noting that Kuwait is one of the largest donors to the UNHCR.
It is worth mentioning that the Kuwait Fund for Development, serving as the right hand of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has played a significant role in funding many humanitarian projects for refugees in various host countries to improve their living conditions. The Kuwait Fund also manages the numerous grants and financial contributions provided by the State of Kuwait to support refugees and displaced persons around the world.
The "World Refugee Day" event serves as a reminder of the suffering of millions of refugees and displaced persons who have been forced to flee wars and conflicts in their countries. It is also an opportunity to express solidarity with these individuals and reaffirm the international community's responsibility to assist and provide them with necessary aid.
